In this section of the website, you can find out about Oliver Prior Society meetings and events going back to the 1930s. Simply select the decade you wish to explore from the drop-down menu above and browse the programmes and supplementary materials available.
You will find the names of Faculty speakers still teaching in Cambridge or at other universities linked to staff profiles at their current institutions. You can also read a little about a number of other Oliver Prior Society speakers in this section of the website, as well as interesting changes in how the Society has been run since its constitution eighty years ago. Perhaps most importantly, you can see from the titles of past talks that teachers of modern languages, especially those working in the 1980s and 1990s, were familiar with the challenges which face teachers today.
Much of the information reproduced here is from ephemera collected by members Mandy Ray and Henry Button: OPS is indebted to them both for keeping such careful records. The Society continues to update and supplement its archive however and wherever possible. Please do get in touch if you, a relative or a colleague has information that will help develop an even more detailed picture – we would be fascinated to hear from you.
